How to open a Hinged Segment Ring
Opening a hinged segment ring can be a simple process when done correctly. Start by ensuring that your hands are clean by washing them with soap and water for at least 15 to 20 seconds. Use a sterile saline wipe to clean your segment ring and remove any bacteria or micro-organisms.
Hold the loop where the segment portion is located with your index finger and thumb, while steadying the bottom of the ring with your other hand. Gently push the segment on one side until it pops out.
The insertion process involves positioning the ring into the desired piercing area. Gently insert one end of the main part of the hoop into the hole and ease the segment back in place by pushing on one end of the segment. Gently twist the other end of the ring to the side while closing it. Once the segment is secured on one end, twist the other end back toward the segment until you can push the prong and snap the segment completely in place.
While this process is simple for smaller gauges like 18G and 14G, some larger gauges may require the use of pliers to pull the pieces apart and reinsert them into the hoop. Always exercise caution and care when handling your body jewellery.
