Elderberries (Sambucus nigra) are loaded with powerful warding and visionary properties and bridge the divide between the physical and spiritual worlds.
According to lore, the Elder is believed to be home to witches and spirits, which explains its tendency to bleed red sap when wounded. Ancient pagans knelt before the Elder and chanted before making the first cut allowing time for the witches and spirits to vacate. When worn or carried, Elder is said to ward off attackers of every kind. Placed at entryways, keeps negative people and spirits from entering. This powerful herb has the ability to expel evil and reverse any spells cast upon you.
Known for its ability to induce vivid dreaming, it is believed that slumbering under an Elder tree can spark dreams and transport us to the enchanted realm of faeries. Elderberry possesses protective energies that can ward against evil energies. Placing Elderberries on the altar can keep evil at bay during ritual practices, or placed around the home for protection.
